Thankful Thursday Summer Reading

Click HERE for the Birthday Sundaes Cakes & Cupcakes Blog Hop

Happy Thursday to everyone!  Today is a very special day!  It is my Middle E's 4th Birthday!  We have a fun filled day planned and I'm sure she is going to have a blast!  Today is also a new Thankful Thursday Challenge at Crazy About Cricut!  This week's theme is Summer Reading and the challenge is to make bookmarks to save your place in those special family story books or if your kids are grown, to save the spot in your summer reading books!  I know someday, I'll have time to read again...hehe...though, I don't want them to grow up too fast!  Here is the bookmark Oldest E made for our challenge!

She really wanted to use this panel from Bo Bunny and despite already having plans for it, I let her use it!  It really was perfect for her project.

She wanted to sew it just like Mommy does so we got out the sewing machine and went to town.  She tried doing a few different fancy stitches and had so much fun with it.

Unfortunately, my sewing machine gave her the same problems it gives me.  I have been having a terrible problem with it birdnesting.  I've cleaned it really good, fiddled with the settings and had my friend look at it, but she agrees it needs to go to the sewing shop to be repaired (insert sad face here).  Oh well, Oldest E doesn't seem to mind the little mess on the back of her bookmark.

Here she is personalizing her bookmark.  She learned what an apostrophe was today so our craft time ended up being a good spelling lesson too!

Here is her finished bookmark.  She LOVES it and immediately stuck it in her favorite book!

Afterwards, she decided she want to practice her sewing more, so she pulled out her sewing machine and went to work.

She even showed Baby E how to use it!

We always have so much fun with our Thankful Thursday projects!  I hope you'll join us for our Summer Reading Bookmark Challenge this week!  You have two weeks to complete your project and link it up at Crazy About Cricut!  Make sure you stop by and see the rest of the Design Team projects and to check out the fun prize for this month!  Thanks for stopping by today!

Too cute! She did a great job, Amber! Happy birthday to your middle E! Now I'm off to see if my 7 year old wants to make a bookmark -- maybe we'll link it up.

What an adorable bookmark. I have to say that I totally love the concept of this challenge. Not only is it great quality family time, but the little ones are learning.!! OMG, she is so so lucky that you are teaching her how to sew..I am 30 something and don't know how. Right now that is my biggest goal learn to sew, right along with knit. Great project..beautiful color ribbon too. Happy Birthday Middle E, I hope you have a wonderful, fun filled day:) Hugs!

Happy birthday, Middle E! I can't believe you're so talented that you know how to use a sewing machine! I'm a little nervous about it, so I haven't given it a try yet, but you've encouraged me to give it a go one of these days!

Amber my heart nearly flipped seeing your daughter sew! That is one area I struggle with and am scared to let my kiddo near the machine! So nice you let her use the stuff you had other plans for

This brings back memories of when I was trying to teach my daughter (who just turned 29) how to sew. Great memories!

Happy Birthday to your sweet middle "E" Amber. It is just adorable that you allow them to do crafts with you. I use to all the time growing up with my Mom. She also is a baker so we were in the kitchen a lot. Great memories that will last a lifetime:) They will always remember days like this! Great job on your bookmark project:)
