Bug Books

I was feeling guilty about not participating in this week's Thankful Thursday so we did our own special Thankful Thursday here.  I came up with our own theme since I couldn't bare doing this weeks theme.  My 3 E's theme for our project is BUGS!!

Middle E is absolutely terrified by bugs.  I have been trying to teach her that all God's creatures are here for a reason and she shouldn't be so afraid of them.  I hope this project helps her!  On the other hand, Oldest E is obsessed with bugs!  She has a bug catcher filled with them and I have been trying to convince her that not all spiders are our friends!  We also had an extra hand today in our project! Our niece (Miss J) is visiting this week and she has been having a blast with Cricut!!  So on to our project.  We made Bug Books for them to keep a little journal about all the bugs they can discover this summer!

Middle E was so excited about her book that she took it to bed with her tonight but here are Oldest E's and Miss J's!

Here they are picking out the paper they wanted for their books.  Last year after back-to-school, I bought an entire case of spiral bound notebooks for $0.03 each!!  You are seeing it right, $0.03 each so I got the entire case of 50 for $1.50!!  I knew they would come in handy for so many projects!

We used the perfect stamp set for these BUG BOOKS!  The inside covers are stamped with My Pink Stamper's Buggy Punnies stamps! (Click HERE to see all the puns on this set)

Miss J was thrilled with these stamps and all the little puns!  She kept saying "These are so cool!  I can't wait to show this to my friends!"

I let them go to town with the stamps and they ended up using every single stamp in the set!

I used my E2 to cut vinyl for the title on the covers of their books.  My E2 gave me a lot of problems with the vinyl.  Has anyone else had problems with theirs?  While I was trying to get it to work, they wanted to go outside exploring with their books.  It has been rainy today so they headed outside to look for worms to write about them in their journals.  As you can see by the first journal entry, they found a gnat and the baby bunny who is living under our deck!

Once I got the vinyl somewhat cut (I'll have to keep playing around with it), Miss J helped me transfer it to their books.

Here are the girls picking out the ribbon they wanted!  Since there is no shortage of ribbon in our house, I let them pick as many or as little as they wanted!

Then it came time to add their little bugs to the books!  They were on a worm hunt tonight, so all of them requested worms (brown ones) for their books!

You can tell these girls are related because when I asked them to smile, they each gave me the same cheesy smile!  They are sooo cute!

They were so proud of their books!

I love crafting with these kiddos!  It is so rewarding and I feel so blessed that I have the time to do it!   Seeing the joy on their faces when they finish their creations is priceless!  I've been trying to keep myself very occupied this week so we have been busy crafting the days away!  I have been posting but I miss visiting all my friends in blogland.  I promise that I'll be back soon!

If you have never heard of it, Thankful Thursday is a challenge at Crazy About Cricut designed to get you crafting with your little ones or with loved ones!  I love the concept of this challenge and I love seeing the projects others create with their loved ones!  There is a new challenge every other week and you can see more about the challenge by clicking HERE!

Since I cannot share our special project with my Thankful Thursday friends this week, I thought I would share this at Getting Cricky with K Andrews for the Simple Sundays Challenge.  Kristal is such an inspiration and not just on Sundays, but everyday!  The messages she shares are so moving!  The challenge this week is Anything Goes and it says it is open for interpretation!  I hope that includes spending time crafting with the cutest little assistants!   If you have never been to Getting Cricky, you have to click on the button and check her and her awesome Design Team out!  You'll be happy you stopped by!

Thanks for stopping by!

***Just one more cute thing to share, this is one of the baby bunnies who is living under our deck!  They are about the size of my husbands fist now and the girls have been watching them, talking too them and feeding them salads for over a week now.  The cute little bunnies are so used to them that the girls can stand right beside them and they don't move!  Such a special blessing for the girls to be able to interact with these little creatures!  Daddy is not as happy because he knows they are going to be treating his garden like a buffet soon!***

These are so precious! I love that idea! I, too, have bug-a-phobes in the house, and I may have to scrap-lift this idea from you. :) So much fun to craft with kids!

What a great project! I would love to be a mom just like you when I have kids. It must be like going to a toy store to be told things like, "Pick whatever paper/ribbon you want." How did you attach the paper to the books? I want to make my own version of smash books, and I'm wondering how to alter the covers. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your response! I am so ready to try the Mod Podge on a composition notebook because I have both things at home ready to use. I think I will use it as a crafting journal for ideas and techniques, recipes of the cards/scrapbook pages I make, and as a color chart or index of what I have. THANKS SO MUCH!

What a fun project to create with the girls!! Love the cheesy grin pic!! I'm with Middle E on the bugs lol. I jump/scream when too many worms have popped up while raking the yard (no grass, just lots of dirt and stuff from trees lol!)

Awesome project...looks like the girls really enjoyed themselves. Everyone gets an "A"-mommy included. TFS! I visit your blog so much that I knew I had subbed many moons ago, but I hadn't so I corrected that. You are so talented and I love visiting. ~Shen

Amber these books are adorable!! And what a steal on those notebooks! You're a girl after my own heart, I get so excited when I find a great deal on stuff too :) That's such a fun idea to make a bug book, we're starting summer journals to keep up with handwriting and writing skills and stuff, but isn't it hilarious the things they come up with to write about? Looks like you're having a great summer too! Thanks for the awesome awards!!

This is one of my favorite posts from you. Your girls are so sweet and you are an amazing mother! My girls would love you!
I was having issues with the E2's built in settings for vinyl- it's not right. Mine cuts great with the pressure at 2, speed-3, and depth-6. Hope it works for you!
